More good news for the Latino community! Mexican actor Diego Calva will star in Oscar-winning director Damien Chazelle’s new film, “Babylon.”

Calva joins an incredible cast that includes Brad Pitt.

“Babylon” will be released on December 25 this year, following a delay due to issues related to the COVID-19 pandemic.

Calva will star as Manny Torres in a period drama. Torres is a young actor, the son of Mexican immigrant parents. He is determined to pursue his career and make it big in Hollywood during the 1920s when the film industry transitioned from silent to talkies.

Brad Pitt will play the famous silent film star John Gilbert, while Australian actress Margot Robbie will take on the role of Clara Bow. Actor Tobey Maguire will also be part of “Babylon” as executive producer and actor, playing the role of Charlie Chaplin.

The first images and trailer for Babylon were unveiled during CinemaCon, which has created a buzz for what is expected to be a contender in next year’s awards season.

Diego Calva makes his debut

Mexican actor Diego Calva had his feature film debut in 2015 with ‘Te Prometo Anarquía,’ a film directed by Julio Hernández Cordón that portrays the love story between two young friends who end up involved in traffic and crime problems in Mexico.

After this, Calva ventured into several television projects, participating in the Netflix series ‘Desenfrenadas’ and the third season of ‘Narcos: Mexico.’ Recently Calva has participated in other projects such as ‘Midnight Family’ alongside Yalitza Aparicio, the adaptation of the documentary of the same name to be directed by Mexican Natalia Beristáin.

And in 2020, Calva decided to send her videos for the casting of a new Hollywood production called ‘Babylon,’ and the rest was history. This opportunity could be the beginning of an excellent career for the young Mexican actor.
