In today’s world of social media, it is easy to forget that we all come in different shapes and sizes. Not sporting perfectly smooth, texture-free skin and a thin frame do not mean you are not beautiful.

However, we all understand that our minds can quickly become distorted due to all the photoshopped celebrities and fake body positivity. We start to look at ourselves as inferior and lose our sense of beauty.

This is why those with a platform need to amplify their voice to reach those on the other side of the screen.

These three plus-size celebrities have made their social media a platform for change.

Ashley Graham

Ashley Graham is one of the most well-known plus-size models in the United States. She has three children and is an icon for showing the world that you are beautiful, no matter your size.

Frequently, women are expected to “bounce back” after having children, and Ashley Graham is always there to remind us your journey is your own and you should do things at your own pace. For Ashley, there is no right or wrong way.

She has been so vocal about loving yourself and your body that she even won a Shorty Award for the category ‘Best in Activism’ in 2017 for her body activism, “empowering her millions of social media followers and women all over the globe to love themselves no matter what size they are.”

Tess Holliday

Tess Holliday is a plus-sized model, influencer, and makeup artist. She is not afraid to speak about the double standard behind body positivity. Holliday has broken down the belief that being plus-sized means you do not care about your health and that there is more to it.

She created ‘effyourbeautystandards,’ which started as a hashtag for women to help embrace their bodies. It has now become a widespread phenomenon that invites people of all shapes and sizes to share photos to promote self-love.

Who said you couldn’t wear a crop top because of your weight?

Lizzo

We couldn’t finish this list without mentioning Lizzo. Born in Detroit, Michigan, Lizzo is a singer/rapper and songwriter. She has won three Grammy Awards and uses her large TikTok following to advocate for loving yourself and understanding the genuine concept of beauty. She constantly speaks of the problem of preaching body positivity as plus-size people continue to be left out of the conversation and looked down upon.
