August is National Black Business Month, and we at Hispanicize want to celebrate it the right way. It’s a time to recognize the work and achievements of Black and Afro-Latinx-owned businesses across the country, and we’re here for it.

Did you know that approximately 10 percent of all U.S. businesses are Black-owned?

What’s more, these occasions are unique when it comes to celebrating diversity and promoting inclusion and access to capital for minorities.

That’s why we’ve selected three Afro-Latinx-owned brands that you should support this National Black Business Month.

Rizos Curls

I recently found this product at a Wordaful convention. Rizos Curls’s  Afro-Mexican CEO, Julissa Prado, was as bubbly and friendly as I imagined her.

The L.A.-based brand proudly creates “products that embrace and celebrate the beauty of curls, coils & waves everywhere!” its mission statement reads. Rizos Curls is focused on providing quality curl care for defined, healthy, voluminous natural curls and formulating its products using high-quality natural ingredients.

Skinergy Beauty

Skinergy Beauty is a brand founded by Priscilla Jiminian, a New Yorker from the Dominican Republic. “I created Skinergy Beauty due to the lack of products in retail that catered to skin like mine,” she explains. “As a Latina, I noticed my skin needs were unique, and for many years, I used various skin products for dark spots and hyperpigmentation, which didn’t do much to hydrate, brighten, or correct. A trip to my parent’s country, the Dominican Republic, led me into the industry.”

Priscilla’s goal is to be inclusive of all skin types. Skinergy Beauty formulates products that cater to many conditions and issues such as dullness, uneven skin tone, hyperpigmentation, and dehydrated and sensitized skin.
