One of the most buzzed-about emerging artists this year is Yahritza y Su Esencia. The trio consists of family members: Yahritza Martinez and her brothers Armando and Jairo.
What makes them distinctive is the fifteen-year-old vocalist’s sorrowful tone, leading them to two Latin Grammy nominations this year.
The group has been nominated for the Latin Grammy awards under Best New Artist and Best Norteño Album for their debut album Obsessed. Without a doubt, Obsessed has been one of this year’s most successful albums by a breakthrough artist.
From the start, listeners were enthralled by Yahritza’s unique voice. Their debut single, “Soy El Unico,” captivated the ears of many Latin music industry tastemakers. This includes the monthly Apple Music’s “Up Next” program, which featured them earlier this year.
Recently, the group from Washington’s Yakima Valley collaborated with Ivan Cornejo, another emerging artist also trailblazing similar lovelorn lyrics paired with norteño sound elements. The heart-wrenching collaboration resulted in a track called “Inseparables,” which is currently No. 4 on Youtube’s music trending list.
The video has accumulated over 1.5 million views thus far.
Social media users are excited about this new collaboration. A Youtube user vNv Slay commented: “Bro, they always come out with bangers, mane; I’m glad to have been part of their journey since the beginning. They poured their heart out on this one.”
Another social media user wrote: “Beautiful!! This song [is] another good hit. The feelings go hard on this one @Yahritza_YSE y Ivan Cornejo.”
Whether or not Yahritza y Su Esencia win the two Latin Grammy awards that they’re nominated for, what’s for sure is that they’re changing the Regional Mexican music industry. By being a women-led group, they’re paving the way for newcomers in this male-dominated Regional Mexican music genre – and that’s a win in itself.
