Our Colombian Reinais finally back! On October 9, Shakira revealed her upcoming single’s name, date, and featuring artist. “Monotonía” featuring Ozuna is set to be released on October 19. Who’s ready?
Shakira’s been teasing the forthcoming single through cryptic Instagram clips. It’s speculated that the featured words of the posts are lyrics. Three typewriting messages include the passages: “No fue culpa tuya…. [It was not your fault”; “Ni tampoco mía [Nor mine]; and “Fue culpa de la monotonía [It was the fault of monotony].”
Another teasing clip features a realistic heart crushed by a men’s shoe. A heartbeat accompanies it as the clip’s audio. The latest clip unveils the single’s details, including a minimalist heart with a sword down its middle. Across the heart, the words read “Monotonía.” The featured artist, Ozuna, commented: “Un pequeño rey con una súper reina [A little king with a super queen].”
What can we expect from the new collaboration? Will Shakira open up about what she’s experiencing in what she calls “her darkest hour”? It’s no secret that she’s going through a challenging time with her ex-partner, the famous Spanish soccer player Gerard Piqué.
During an intimate (possibly the most to date) conversation with ELLE, Shakira reveals that her music is her therapy. She said: “I think everyone has their own processes or their own mechanisms to process grief or stress or anxiety. We all go through stuff in life. But in my case, I think that writing music is like going to the shrink, only cheaper [laughs]. It just helps me process my emotions and make sense of them. And it helps me to heal.”
When asked about the “dissolution” of the relationship, she revealed that she put her career second: “I put my career in second gear, and I came to Spain to support him so he could play football and win titles. And it was a sacrifice of love. Thanks to that, my kids were able to have a present mom, and I have this amazing bond with them that is unbreakable and sustains us. You know that is it. That’s all I can say.”
Based on this conversation, the typewriting passages of the upcoming single, and the stepped-on heart clip, we can already tell that this forthcoming single will be emotional. And as huge Shakira fans, we will be here for her every step of the way!
