What a year it’s been! It’s hard to look back at the year without missing any moments, but every December, we try to be as inclusive as possible with our end-of-the-year lists.
This year, we experienced many music moments in the Latinx music industry that dropped our jaws. These epic occasions really shined a light on our community and kept us on our toes for what’s next.
From Christian Nodal and Belinda’s public breakup to RBD’s periodic reunions, here are five moments in our music community that made our 2022.
We can’t wait to see what’s in store for us next year!
Christian Nodal & Belinda’s buzzed-about breakup
It feels like these two have been separated for years now, but they called it quits in February. Belinda opened up to Vogue Spain about regretting the very-public situation in July, saying: “Of course, one hundred percent. And I would never do it again. I do regret, and I mean it from the bottom of my heart, having exposed that subject the way I did.”
Residente and J Balvin’s feud
Yup, this also happened this year! Remember when Residente and J Balvin had beef? The two were heated — words were said, merch was dropped — and at the end, it’s almost as if nothing actually happened. At the end of the day, J Balvin kept quiet through it all, which helped put out the fire.
Yahritza y Su Esencia’s rise
It’s worth mentioning that this family trio left their mark in music this year. They even received two Latin Grammy nominations for Best New Artist and Best Norteño Album. Though they didn’t win either category, the bilingual band propelled a new scene of female-led Mexican Regional acts that we’re excited to keep following next year.
Bad Bunny’s Un Verano Sin Ti
There’s no way any Latine media outlet can skip talking about Benito’s latest album release. Not only did it break records, but it also helped get Spanish-language music onto mainstream media. That’s the power of our Latine community!
RBD reunions
Lastly, we are still holding our breath for RBD’s IRL reunion. We are periodically teased with photos of some of the members together – and we can’t keep thinking it’s about to happen. The recent speculation? Social media users believe that the prominent pop group will reunite at Bad Bunny’s upcoming Mexico City shows (December 9 and December 10) – now that would be a way to wrap up his impressive world tour.
